Ibirapuera Park – best known and frequented space among all those who comprise the provision of parks in the city of São Paulo – received a super classification and confirmed why it is so loved by both inhabitants and visitors. The ample outdoor recreational area, located in the South region of the state capital, was considered the best urban park on the planet, according to news published today (the 7^th) by the renowned British newspaper The Guardian.

The list, led by São Paulo, has nine other names. Following the famous Ibirapuera are: Buttes-Chaumont (Paris); Boboli (Florence); High Line (New York) Landschaftspark (Duisburg-Nord); Hampstead Heath (London); Park Güell (Barcelona); Summer Palace (Beijing); Olmsted Parks (Louisville) and Birkenhead Park (Merseyside).

The size of the park, which currently has 221 hectares, and its landscape design, conceived by Burle Marx, were prominent points in the feature. Today, in addition to the bicycle paths, bike parking, courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, tracks for racing and spaces with apparatus for gymnastics, the park offers to its visitors a wide cultural agenda. The activities take place in the Exhibition Pavilion, Japanese Pavilion, the Museum Afro Brazil, Museum of Modern Art, the OCA, among others.

For the municipal Secretary for Tourism and President of SPTuris (municipal company of tourism and events), Wilson Poit, the leadership of the Ibirapuera in the list highlights its importance to the city. “The Ibirapuera Park is one of the most-visited attractions both by inhabitants and visitors. It is at the top of the list because it is very well known here in the country and abroad. It has an enviable area and is well liked by all residents of São Paulo”, he concludes.
